About
Martin James is a Senior Lecturer in Popular Music Studies at Southampton Solent University where he is course leader of the BA(hons) Popular Music Journalism course.
Prior to becoming an academic, Martin had been a music and lifestyle journalist for over seventeen years, writing for numerous UK and US music titles. His writing has featured in The Guardian, The Independent and the Independent on Sunday, and he has written award-winning websites for the Department for Education and Skills.
Martin is also author of seven internationally published books on music including State of Bass: Jungle – The Story So Far and French Connections: From Discotheque to Discovery. His next book, Popular Music Journalism (Routledge) is due to be published in 2011.
